A Surprise Proposal in Stillwater | Matt and Kaitlin

I’ve known Kaitlin’s family for years now. It started with her brother’s senior photos, then family shoots, headshots, and now my favorite one of all…Kaitlin’s surprise proposal in Stillwater, MN!! 💍❤️

Matt and I had texted back and forth for a few weeks leading up to this Saturday in July. Kaitlin and Matt were in town to celebrate Kaitlin’s mom’s birthday. They had brunch at Feller, and then Matt suggested a walk, just the two of them, to the historic lift bridge in downtown Stillwater.

I had arrived early, along with my husband so I wouldn’t look suspicious. Matt was sharing his location with me on his phone, so I knew exactly when they were approaching the bridge. For the next few minutes I creeped on them as they made their way across the bridge. Every once in a while, if I thought Kaitlin was turning around, I’d duck behind a bridge beam or hide behind random people who probably thought I was a little insane 😆

Matt told me afterward that he’d been shaking the entire walk over, but you wouldn’t have known. They came to the side of the bridge and he dropped to his knee. Immediately Kaitlin had tears in her eyes, and was completely overjoyed. They hugged for a while and then Kaitlin saw me, and yelled my name excitedly and then started crying again! Truly the best morning!

The favorite part of my job is something I didn’t even realize when I first started this business. You think you’re being hired to take pictures. But what actually happens, if you’re lucky, is you gain amazing friends. And you get to be a part of the most special moments. Eternally grateful for this sweet family. 💛
